Your Freedom is now run by a new company.

  • New client version 20070510-01
  • Starting with client version 20070510-01, configuration parameters that have so far been "hidden" are now configurable through the configuration panel. Most users won't need them, but if you need to tweak the most out of Your Freedom, these values are for you. You'll find them next to the server options.

    • Minimum buffer size

Your Freedom uses an adaptive buffer size when sending data through the tunnel. While this ensures good responsiveness, it does not ensure best possible throughput. When you are only using one application, especially ones with bursty traffic pattern, it's better to increase the minimum buffer size from its default (128) to, say, 1500. It ensures that the TCP window mechanism is not confused by small segment sizes. All online gamers not using OpenVPN mode, this is for you! Set it to 1500. Also, if you are in a remote place and everything is just dog slow, try setting this to 1500.

    • RTT measurements

Instructs the client to measure the round trip time from client to server back to client at regular intervals. The value is in milliseconds, and by default this is off. Use values above 2000. The result of the measurements appears in the message log. This is useful if you need to know if there's congestion on the link between you and the server -- very long times would indicate packet loss.

    • Keepalive interval

The different connection protocols use their own default keepalive interval. For some of them (HTTPS, HTTP, FTP) you can change the default of 25000 milliseconds here. Use this if the message log indicates that you frequently lose connection to the server and the client reconnects a lot, lower values speed up problem detection and result in shorter hangs. But be careful: if you set it too low the problem may get worse. Values below 2000 and above 30000 are useless.

Even if you've used min_buffersize before you should upgrade your client, because starting from 20070510-01, the client tells the server about your configuration and the server will match it.

Oh, and it's a good idea to upgrade anyway. :-)
